Wonderful Things, Kunsthal
Making photographs, to me, is really a kind of dream state. As you tour your imagination, you want to photograph what you are seeing…
– Tim Walker
In this exhibition, you will find 10 new series which are inspired by treasures from the collection of The Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The art pieces are a true inspiration for Tim Walker. Together with curators, Tim Walker found some of the most beautiful pieces which he then used as inspiration to create photographs.
Tim Walker (1970, was born in England. He is 18 years old when he started working in the archives of Condé Nast. During this period he sees the work of Cecil Beaton, and his passion and interest in photography started to take shape. Walked studied photography at an art academy, and after his graduation, he started working as an assistant for fashion photographer Richard Avedon in New York. At age 25 Walker receives his first assignment for Vogue, this is the start of his career. He also creates work for the British, and American magazines W, I-D, AnOther, and LOVE magazine. Tim photographs his models in theatrical stylized sets. In his work, he pulls the viewer inside his created dreams scapes.
THE EXHIBITION
I visited the exhibition together with my Intern, to show her what else lies beneath making photographs. Especially to show how to translate a concept, and idea into a set design, and eventually into a photograph. The beautiful thing while visiting this exhibition is that you are submerged as a visitor into the wonderful world of Walker and his team. Every series Waker created is shown in a different room which has its own design, sound, and smell. The rooms are created by the dutch design duo Maison the Faux. One room is completely pink, the other room completely glows in the dark.

INSPIRATION
For me as a visual artist, the work of Walker has been very inspiring since I first saw his work published in Vogue. The strength of his imagination, concept development, and final results are astonishing in every way. His way of approaching a theme, model, and storyline learns me something new every time and teaches me that people are very much interested in the hidden and subconscious message of artists.
You visit this exhibition until the 29th of January 2023. For more information visit this weblink.
